Why do I need to verify my account?Verified accounts are compulsory for users who wish to trade. Security is very important to us at Bitkoin Africa, that’s why we employ all the necessary measures to protect our users during transactions. By verifying your account, you are proving that you are who you say you are, and can be trusted to conduct a trade.
For your account to be fully verified, you have to confirm your identity by verifying your BVN, phone number, and bank account. Usually, we retrieve your phone number from your BVN details, but in the event where that number is no longer in use, you will need to verify your identity manually. This entails mailing us proof of identity.
Is my information safe and secure?Totally. We are committed to protecting the privacy of our users. Any information/document you mail to us will be securely stored pending the time your account is verified, after which all copies will be deleted from our servers.
Please bear in mind that Bitkoin Africa uses proof of identity to confirm that your Bitkoin Africa account actually belongs to you and that you're using the name in your BVN/bank account details on that account. The only parts of your ID that we need to see are your name and date of birth. We encourage everyone who sends us an ID to cover up any other information they don’t feel comfortable sharing.
What do I need to manually verify my account?To verify your identity manually, you need any one of these:
- Driver's Licence
- National ID Card
- National Voters Card
For a smooth manual verification process, please ensure that:
- Your document is valid. Expired documents will not be considered.
- Your document is fully legible, well-lit and without (much) glare. This will help us read the details on your document properly.
How do I manually verify my account?
Step 1: Go to the Verify Your Identity pageVisit the manual verification page and click the ‘Verify your Identity’ button.
Step 2: Review the email form and attach your proof of identityClicking the ‘Verify your Identity’ button should redirect you to an email form. Review the details that have been auto-filled, attach your ID, and click ‘Send Email’.
Step 3: Wait for your verification to processOnce you send the email, your document will be uploaded into our system and then processed. Hold tight while it’s being analysed and await a confirmation email from Bitkoin Support.
Step 4: Edit your profileAfter you receive your confirmation email from Bitkoin Support, add your current phone number to your profile. To do this, click on the ‘Edit Profile’ option from the ‘Account’ drop-down menu on the navigation bar. Type in your current phone number in the required field and click ‘Update Profile’.
Step 5: Verify your phone numberAfter adding your current phone number to your Bitkoin Africa account, the next step is to verify it. To do this, click on the ‘Account Verification’ option from the ‘Account’ drop-down menu on the navigation bar.
From the Account Verification page, check that the last four digits in the number field match the ones in your current phone number and click ‘Send’ to receive a one-time password (OTP).
Step 6: That’s all!After verifying your phone number, this is what your account verification page should look like – all three steps in green.
