Creating a Bitkoin Africa account is pretty easy and takes almost no time at all.
Step 1: RegisterClick on the ‘Register’ link that appears on the top right part of the screen. This will take you to a form where you’re to fill your name, date of birth, email address and password.
We strongly recommend you use your real first and last name because this will help verify your Bitkoin Africa account with no difficulty. The name you provide in the form must be the same one that appears in your bank account details that are linked to your BVN.
Make sure you agree to our terms and conditions, then click ‘Create Account’.
As soon as you create your account, a mail is automatically sent to the email address you provided in the registration form. This email contains a link you’re to click in order to confirm that the email address you filled in the form really is yours.
Step 2: Confirm your email addressA mail from Bitkoin Support should be in your email inbox. Go to your email client to access your inbox and click the link.
The link will redirect you to your browser, showing your confirmation message.
Once you get there, sign in to your Bitkoin account with your email address and password.
Step 3: Add your bank accountWe need your bank account details so we know where to transfer the money you make on Bitkoin Africa. To add your bank account details to your Bitkoin account, click on the Account menu on the navigation bar then select ‘Account Verification’ from the drop-down menu.
From the account verification page, scroll to the bottom and click ‘Add a Bank Account’.
Type in your bank account number, select your bank from the drop-down menu, and click ‘Add Bank Account’.
That’s all! You have successfully added your bank account to your Bitkoin Africa profile.
Step 4: Confirm your identityThis last step is necessary so we know you truly who you say you are. Confirming your identity entails verifying your Bank Verification Number (BVN) and phone number. From the account verification page, put in your BVN in the required text field and click ‘Verify’.
If you can’t remember your BVN, dial the USSD code *565*0# from your mobile phone. You should receive your BVN shortly after. The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) will send the BVN associated with that phone number, so make sure it’s the number you used to register your BVN that you’re texting from.
Now that your BVN verification is done, the next thing is to verify your phone number. Your phone number is automatically pulled from your BVN details that have just been verified. Check that the last four digits in the number field match the ones in your phone number and click ‘send’ to receive a one-time password (OTP). However, if you do not receive an OTP within minutes of clicking the 'Send' button, click on the 'Didn't get a message?' link. This will give you the option of receiving the OTP via phone call.
NOTE - If the phone number that’s linked to your BVN is no longer in use, you will have to verify your account manually. You can do this by clicking on the ‘Is this no longer your phone number?’ link.
After verifying your phone number, this is what your account verification page should look like – all three steps in green.
Now that your identity has been confirmed, you’re ready to start trading on Bitkoin Africa!
