What is Two-Factor Authentication?

Two-Factor Authentication or Two-Step Verification is an extra layer of security that requires not only a user’s password and username but also something that user has on them e.g. a mobile phone. It is designed to ensure that you're the only person who can access your account, even if someone else knows your password.

For additional security, Bitkoin Africa’s Two-Factor Authentication requires you to enter an OTP sent to your phone each time you want to:
  • Buy Bitcoin
  • Sell Bitcoin
  • Send Bitcoin to another Wallet
  • Activate a Trade Posting
  • Retire a Trade Posting
Two-Factor Authentication is optional and is disabled by default for all Bitkoin Africa accounts. If you’d like to enable Two-Factor Authentication for your account, follow these steps:

Step 1: Go to the settings page

To do this, log in, click on the profile icon on the navigation bar, then select ‘Settings’ from the drop-down menu. From the settings page, select how you want to receive the OTP that'll be sent to your phone. You have the option of receiving your OTP via SMS or Google Authenticator.

Step 2: Select your preferred Two-Factor Authentication method

If you'd like to receive the OTP via SMS, click on the SMS button, confirm that the last digits of the phone number in the number field that appears match the ones in your phone number, then click ‘Send’ to receive an OTP.

You should receive an OTP a few seconds after you click ‘Send’. Enter the OTP in the number field and click ‘Submit’.

Google Authenticator

You need the Google Authenticator app on your phone in order to be able to use this method. You can find it on the Android and iOS app stores. To receive the OTP via Google Authenticator, open the app, scan the QR code and type in the OTP that appears on the app into the number field and click ‘Submit’.

You can also enable Two-Factor Authentication via Google Authenticator on your phone. However, instead of scanning a QR code, you'll be redirected to the app where you're to receive and then copy the OTP.

Step 3: That's all!

You have successfully enabled Two-Factor Authentication for your account. Now you have extra security and can be sure all your Bitkoin Africa transactions are controlled by just you.
