How do I create a Bitkoin Africa account?

What happens if the first/last name on my Bitkoin Africa account doesn’t match the first/last name on my bank account details?

If the first/last name on your Bitkoin Africa account doesn’t match the ones on your bank account details, you can edit your profile. To do this, click on the ‘Edit Profile’ option from the ‘Account’ drop-down menu on the navigation bar.

What happens if I don’t get an email confirmation during my sign-up process?

Check your spam/junk folders. If after 30 minutes you still don’t find/receive an email confirmation, please contact us.

Why can’t I verify my BVN, despite the fact that I used my real name(s)?

Please check that the details you entered – both BVN and first and last name – are correct. If you aren’t sure about your BVN, dial the USSD code *565*0# from your mobile phone to receive your BVN.
If you’re sure the details you entered are correct and are still having issues verifying your BVN, please contact us.

Can I still trade with a non-verified account?

You can only buy Bitcoin if your account is not verified. To be able to sell, you need to add your bank account details to your account. To create a Trade Posting, you have to verify your identity.

Can I send Bitcoin from my Wallet to an external Wallet?

Yes, you can. However, please bear in mind that a Network Fee will be charged on all external Bitcoin transfers. We recommend you leave some Bitcoin in your Wallet to take care of this fee.The Network Fee for your transfer will be calculated and shown so you can view and approve before you send Bitcoin.

What is two-factor authentication?

Two-factor authentication or two-step verification is an extra layer of security that requires not only a user’s password and username but also something that user has on them e.g. a mobile phone. It is designed to ensure that you're the only person who can access your account, even if someone knows your password.

For additional security, Bitkoin Africa’s Two-Factor Authentication requires you to enter an OTP sent to your phone number each time you want to buy/sell Bitcoin, send Bitcoin to another Wallet, and activate/retire a Trade Posting. Read more about Two-Factor Authentication here.
